Sofía Moro Valentín-Gamazo

Sofía Moro Valentín-Gamazo (Madrid, 1966) is an independent photographer who works as a teacher in PhotoEspaña and in the Lens, Efti, TAI and Espai d’art fotografic schools Her photographs have appeared in international pulbicaitons such as ‘Monocle,’ ‘Libération,’ ‘La Repubblica,’ ‘Die Zeit,’ ‘Financial Times,’ and ‘The New York Times.’ Winner of the FotoNikon Prize in 2009, her personal projects focus on the defense of human rights.

The photojournalism project ‘A step away from death’ will consist of the publication of a book related to the idea of the death penalty as an inhuman practice that affects the freedom and dignity of societies and individuals, with the express aim of progressing towards its universal abolition.

The book will include a series of articles, interviews and expert reflections dealing with the situation of the death penalty in five countries: the United States, Japan, Belarus, Malawi and Iran.
