Rebeca Acín Pérez (Zaragoza, 1977) is a Ramón y Cajal researcher at Centro Nacional de Investigaciones Cardiovasculares.
Her ability to establish collaborative networks and open up original paths of research is clear from the 41 scientific articles and a chapter of a book published so far, with 1,644 citations between them and an index of H=21.
PROJECT
The project will study the mitochondrial protease OMA1.
The special peculiarity of this protease is that it is activated only in situations of stress, and as it alters the normal function of of the mitochondria, which are essential for the cardiac tissue to receive the correct amount of energy and oxygen, it is probably the origin of numerous cases of cardiac failure, the biggest cause of death in the world.
