BIO
Pablo del Pino González de la Higuera (Seville, 1977) is a Ramón y Cajal researcher at Universidad de Santiago de Compostela. He has a multidisciplinary approach in the area of nanobiotechnology, which ranges from the synthesis of materials to the achievement of concept testing in advanced therapies.
PROJECT
His project will be focused on the development of nanosystems that deliver nanomedicines to a specific target for action in the organism, to treat genetic diseases.
These nanosystems are based on mesenchymal stem cells that are known for ‘traveling’ specifically to inflamed or damaged tissue. This allows the safe and efficient delivery of ‘smart’ drugs that prevents them from acting on healthy cells and thus minimizes side-effects and their accumulation in the body.
Del Pino will test these nanosystems in an animal model of cerebral ischemia.
