BIO
Neus Martínez Abadías (Lleida, 1978) is a Marie Curie IFF postdoctoral researcher at Centro de Regulación Genómica in Barcelona. Her doctorate in molecular biology was focused on determining the genetic component of the human skull and its development.
PROJECT
She is now researching into the genetic bases of congenital malformations by applying the most advanced techniques in morphometrics, genetics and image processing; for example she is studying whether the inhibition of a certain gene improves facial development in Down’s syndrome.
Her project will attempt to discover facial biomarkers that can detect mental disorders early, and in a non-invasive fashion.
Numerous genetic disorders that are linked to intellectual disability are associated with craneofacial malformations The aim is to develop a biomedical tool based on photographs, analysis and facial modeling with diagnostic and prognostic value.
