BIO
Massimo Squatrito (Sicilia, Italia; 1975) is a head scientist at Centro Nacional de Investigaciones Oncológicas (CNIO), and a recognized expert in brain tumor research.
Apart from CNIO, he has worked as a researcher in the European Institute of Oncology (Italy) and the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (United States).
PROJECT
His project will focus on gliomas, a broad group of brain tumors, among which is glioblastoma multiforme (GBM), the most lethal of the primary tumors of the central nervous system in adults.
Squatrito will use the technique of CRISPR-Cas9 genome editing to create a new generation of glioma models in mice to reflect the genome complexity of these types of tumors. The goal is to improve understanding of their biology with a view to identifying more effective treatments.
