BIO
Martín Fañanás Mastral (Zaragoza, 1980) is a Ramón y Cajal researcher at Centro Singular de Investigación en Química Biológica y Materiales Moleculares (CIQUS) of Universidad de Santiago de Compostela. He has recently been awarded the 2015 Thieme Chemistry Journal Award.
PROJECT
The aim of the project is to develop catalytic processes that allow methane to be converted into other high added value molecules in an efficient and sustainable way. Methane is the biggest component of natural gas and biogas, and its widespread availability make it an excellent potential raw material for the chemical industry. However, it has a limited reactivity, which prevents its use in industry. One of the biggest challenges for chemistry at present is to increase its reactivity.
