BIO
Mariona Graupera Garcia-Mila (Barcelona, 1975) is a researcher employed by Instituto de Investigación Biomédica de Bellvitge (IDIBELL). She has more than 15 years of experience in the field of vascular biology.
Her doctorate studies on the control of vascular tone during cirrhosis provide proof of concept for the use of new drugs in the treatment of portal hypertension, a syndrome associated with this type of hepatic damage.
PROJECT
Graupera will study the function of the main molecular mechanisms involved in the development of diabetic retinopathy, a disorder that affects over 30% of diabetes patients and is the main cause of the loss of sight in adult life.
The goal is to help implement new strategies for its treatment.
