BIO
Laia Alegret Badiola (Huesca, 1975) is a professor at the Department of Earth Sciences of Universidad de Zaragoza.
PROJECT
Her project wants to improve knowledge of the medium and long-term effects of climate change. To improve these predictions she aims to study the warming events of the Paleogene in Zealandia, a region known as the ‘eighth continent’ that almost entirely submerged in the waters of the Pacific (except for New Zealand and New Caledonia).
Alegret has been chosen to take part in the expedition to this zone as a scientist. As her personal project she wants to analyze the hyperthermals of the Paleogene in Zealandia, comparing them to each other and to current climate change, and check these results against those obtained in other regions.
This research may provide information on how greenhouse gas emissions affect current climate change and its consequences for the environment.
