PROJECT
This project aims to analyze the Great Recession and the global economic crisis of recent years from the perspective of productivity. Di Giovanni will examine the direct effects of the award of public contracts on corporate productivity and if the companies found it easier to access credit after obtaining these contracts. He will focus on differences in geography and sector specialization of the different Spanish regions (to study the redistribution effects of public projects); and finally, he will create models that can be used to analyze these maroeconomic questions. He considers that these models will make it possible to investigate whether these forms of awarding public projects help explain the low levels of aggregate productivity or whether they were systematically awarded to companies that were not productive, which would imply an inefficient assignment of resources.
