BIO
Joaquín García Álvarez (Oviedo, 1978) is an associate professor at Universidad de Oviedo.
His work has been recognized by the journal ‘Organic Process Research & Development’ of the American Chemical Society, and as one of the most relevant approaches in 2016 in the area of chemistry by the journal ‘Chemistry World.’
This year he received the GEQO Award for Young Investigators from the Royal Spanish Society of Chemistry.
PROJECT
His project will explore the use of bio-renewable solvents known as deep eutectic solvents (DES).
Currently, industries such as construction materials, steel, cosmetics and pharmaceutics use volatile organic solvents that harm the environment and people’s health. DES are an alternative that has not been much explored, but they are safe, stable, cheap and biodegradable.
