Jesús TorresJesús Torres Ruiz (Zaragoza, 1965) studied at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Madrid. He also studied Musical Analysis with Luis de Pablo. Between the years 1986 and 1988 he took composition classes with Francisco Guerrero Marín.
His catalogue numbers some one hundred compositions, with orchestral works (seventeen, including five concertos: for piano, accordion, violin, percussion and clarinet) and chamber works for a variety of instrumental groups. His chief interest lies in putting music to texts, particularly his ongoing relationship with the poetry of Vicente Aleixandre, as well as Saint John of the Cross, Jorge Manrique, Saint Teresa of Jesus, Luis de Gongora, Lope de Vega, Francisco de Quevedo, Rubén Darío, Miguel Hernández, Juan Eduardo Cirlot, Leopoldo Panero and Antonio Carvajal.
PROJECT
The project involves the composition of a cycle of orchestral works: A double concerto for accordion, cello and string orchestra; and a concerto for clarinet and orchestra.
They are two pieces in which there is a dialogue with the orchestra that is developed through an eminently lyrical and melodic perspective, with a virtuoso and highly technical contribution by the soloists. Materials and events of one of the concertos are used in some ways in the other piece, and vice versa, thus forming a set of works united in their creation but at the same time independent when it comes to their performance in the concert hall.
In fact, the players required for the two works are very different, as the idea is that there should be a similarity of content but diversity in timbre.
