PROJECT
The project applies computational chemistry to the study of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), a family of compounds that are generated in incinerators and vehicle emissions, and are spread widely in the environment. Some are used in the manufacture of plastics, pesticides and even medicines, despite being toxic. However, neither their reactivity nor how they work is understood properly, something that this project aims to change thanks to the new computational tool developed by the author. The goal is to assess the persistence and toxicity of the PAH by-products and their effects on living beings.
