BIO
Ismael Galván García (Badajoz, 1981) is a graduate in Environmental Sciences and researcher in Estación Biológica de Doñana-Spanish National Research Center, Seville. He is the author of a prolific body of much-cited scientific work in prestigious international journals of cross-disciplinary scope.
Of note is his excellent level of scientific production in the area of biological pigments to generate distinctive color phenotypes independently of the chemical composition of these pigments.
PROJECT
His project explores how chemically identical pigments can generate different colorations if they present different characteristics of molecular vibration. This opens up interesting mechanisms for the evolution of visual communication.
The assessment committee has determined that the project is ‘novel, with an excellent balance of high risk against high benefit’ by exploring new aspects of the coloring systems in vertebrates.
