BIO
Guadalupe Sabio Buzo (Badajoz, 1977) is a scientific researcher at Centro Nacional de Investigaciones Cardiovasculares (CNIC) who has eceived the SEBBM Young Researcher Award (2016).
Currently she is studying the molecular mechanisms associated with obesity that may predispose patients to hepatocellular carcinoma, a type of liver cancer that is the second most common cause of death from cancer.
PROJECT
Her project will analyze whether the inhibition of p38 gamma, a kinase whose expression increases in biopsies of patients with hepatocesllular carcinoma, could reduce the proliferation of this type of tumor.
If the hypothesis is confirmed, this possible treatment could reach patients quicker than is normally the case, as approval for the market use of a p38 gamma inhibitor has already been given for pulmonary fibrosis.
