Elena Torres Clemente (Granada, 1976) is professor of Musicology at Universidad Complutense de Madrid.
Her area of research is Spanish music of the 19th and 20th century, and she is considered one of the key international specialists in Manuel De Falla. She has also explored in depth the relations between music and language.
PROJECT
The project ‘Dramatic and musical relations in Spanish opera from the restoration of Alfonso to our days: What the music hides’ will analyze how the melody fits the prosody of the Spanish language, and the narrative strategies brought into play through the musical/verbal discourse. The survey starts in 1875 with Bretón, Chapí and Pedrell, moves on to Albéniz, Granados and Falla, finally arriving at Luis de Pablo, Cristóbal Halffter and Josep Soler.
