BIO
Alejandro Higuera Matas (Madrid, 1981) is an assistant professor at Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (UNED).
PROJECT
In light of the growing debate in Western societies about the legalization of cannabis, Higuera aims to clarify two of the possible consequences of the consumption of this drug, on which there is still no consensus: whether it is a substance that acts as a gateway to other drugs of abuse and what its long-term affects are. Specifically, his study will focus on the possible appearance of certain behavior that defines addictive conduct in adult age, and identify individuals who can be particularly vulnerable to these affects. It will look for behavioral markers that may predict in adolescence which subjects will be more affected by exposure to THC (a psychoactive component of cannabis).
